A FATHER of three attacked a man in a nightclub because he believed he had been seriously assaulted by him the previous year, a court has been told.
Unemployed butcher Angelo Oliveira (26) "took the law into his own hands", approached the man from behind, punched him to the floor, then kicked him while he was down.
Oliveira, with an address in Charleville, Co Cork, claimed the man had previously "bottled" him and been had taunting him in the Academy nightclub in Abbey Street, Dublin, last January 26.
THE DEFENDANT PLEADED GUILTY TO ASSAULTING THE MAN AND APOLOGISED FOR HIS BEHAVIOUR, SAYING IT WAS OUT OF CHARACTER.
Handing Oliveira a three-month suspended sentence at Dublin District Court, Judge Patrick Clyne said: "We don't have lynch mobs here, we have moved on from those days."
He also told the defendant that he should not been out when he had three children at home.
