'I didn't know I was banned'

A MOTHER-of-three caught behind the wheel while she was serving a two-year disqualification has claimed she didn't know anything about the ban as she was in hospital at the time.

Jolanda O'Driscoll (29) was banned from driving in her absence and she didn't know anything about it until she went to pay the fine, a court heard.

O'Driscoll denied she was trying to mislead gardai when she told them that her name was 'Jolanda Cooney', as Cooney is her family name, though O'Driscoll is her legal name.

Judge David McHugh fined O'Driscoll €100, banned her from driving for four years and ordered her to complete 100 hours' community service in lieu of three months in prison.

O'Driscoll, of Heathfield Crescent in Finglas, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to driving without insurance or a driving licence, as well as providing gardai with a false address and a misleading name.

She was stopped driving a silver Lexus at Ratoath Avenue in Finglas on April 9.
