Homeless man faces trial over mugging

A DUBLIN man accused of robbing another young man of an MP3 player has been sent forward for trial.

Kenneth O'Callaghan (36) is alleged to have robbed the man while he was walking down a road in south Dublin.

The defendant, of no fixed abode, appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged with robbery.

The alleged incident took place at St Patrick's Road, Clondalkin on June 16 last.

It is alleged that O'Callaghan robbed an MP3 music player, worth €20.

The State solicitor said the book of evidence was ready and had been served on O'Callaghan, who goes forward to the next sittings of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

O'Callaghan is unemployed, the court heard. Judge Patrick McMahon assigned defence solicitor Declan Fahy and one counsel on legal aid.
