A REPEAT offender survived a mistaken-identity shooting, but then had to have his leg amputated when he contracted MRSA in hospital, a court heard.
Gerard Memery (31) told a judge he went through a series of 30 operations after a 2006 gun attack but then lost a leg from infection a year later.
Memery, of Navan Road, Cabra, was explaining the background to his heroin addiction at Dublin District Court after pleading guilty to charges of unlawful possession of a butcher's knife and shoplifting meat from a supermarket.
He said he had not taken the drug before being shot.
Judge Ann Watkin adjourned the case against him for the production of a probation report.
