A DUBLIN man accused of robbing a woman of €400 as she was making her way to lodge the money in the post office has been sent forward for trial.

Ian Stewart (32) is facing trial in the Circuit Court after the charge was deemed too serious for the District Court.

Stewart, of Moynihan Court, Main Street, Tallaght, appeared before Tallaght District Court charged with robbery.

The alleged incident took place on Old Greenhills Road, Tallaght on October 15 last year.

A court heard it will be alleged that Stewart robbed the woman of her handbag which contained €400 cash, as well as a savings book and black purse.

State solicitor Karen Wilson, said the book of evidence was ready and had been served on Stewart, who goes forward for trial to the next sittings of Dublin Circuit Court.

Judge James McDonnell gave Stewart the alibi caution, telling him he had 14 days to provide the State with details of anyone he plans to call in his defence.

He was granted bail and legal aid was granted.
