Grandad's threats to woman in car scrape

A GRANDFATHER caused over €7,000 worth of damage to a car after he tried to pass it on a country road and then threatened the driver's wife after she tried to stop him from leaving.

George O'Toole (60) scraped the whole side of an Audi car with a trailer which was attached to his van.

He also threatened the driver's wife after she parked her car across the road to prevent him from leaving, telling her: "I'd advise you, Miss, unless you want your bumper gone too, to move your car".

O'Toole caused €7,820 in damage to the man's Audi car.

His lawyer said O'Toole wasn't himself at the time as his wife of 38 years had just been diagnosed with cancer. She has since passed away.

Judge Dermot Dempsey fined O'Toole €500 and banned him from driving for two years.

O'Toole, of Corballis Road, in Donabate, admitted before Swords District Court to driving without insurance as well as failing to remain at the scene and failing to give appropriate information. O'Toole also admitted to making threats to damage property in the same incident at Corballis Road in Donabate on May 26 last year.

Judge Dempsey said O'Toole's behaviour was atrocious.
