A GRANDFATHER who started swinging his walking stick in the front garden of a house told gardai he'd "never been drunker", a court heard.
Thomas Travers (63) had a wife, family and a flourishing business as a milkman -- but his life changed three decades ago when he killed a child in a tragic accident.
His solicitor told Blanchardstown District Court that Travers never recovered from that accident and is now a chronic alcoholic.
Judge Hugh O'Donnell fined Travers, of Carrigallen Drive, Finglas, €650 and sentenced him to three months in prison, suspended for a year, after he admitted stealing alcohol, public drunkenness and threatening and abusive behaviour.
