Grandad held over punch-up

A GRANDFATHER was arrested when he refused to leave the scene of a fight that broke out outside a Dublin hotel where his son had been competing in a boxing tournament.

Patrick Cassidy (49) was not involved in the altercation at Louis Fitzgerald Hotel, Naas Road, on June 1, but failed to move on when directed by gardai.

Cassidy, with an address at Rathminton Crescent, Tallaght, was left without a criminal conviction after making a charity donation.


A man has denied stealing more than €1,500 worth of musical equipment from a shop in the west of the city.

Darren Matthews (33) had the case against him adjourned when he appeared in Blanchardstown District Court.

Matthews, of St Peter's Road, Phibsboro, is charged with two counts of theft at X Music, Red Cow Retail Park, on April 15 and 24.
