Girl (13) forced into sex act with teen after fire torture

A DUBLIN youth has admitted that he got a bullied 13-year-old girl to perform a sex act on him after another boy burned her with a cigarette lighter.

The 17-year-old had been charged at the Dublin Children's Court with defilement of the girl, under Section 2 of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2006.

It was alleged that the boy, then aged 14, engaged in "a sexual act with a child under the age of 15", at a house in Dublin, in July 2009.

He pleaded guilty after the juvenile court yesterday accepted jurisdiction to deal with the case. Garda Suzanne Lavin told Judge Ann Ryan that the girl gave statements to garda child specialist interviewers.

She had then been the youth's girlfriend but they had not been sexually active. Another boy present burned her on her stomach with a cigarette lighter. The defendant then asked her to perform a sex act on him.

"At first she said no. She states she refused a number of times and then she did," the garda said.

The court that she was "a quiet girl" and went to a counselling. There had been "a bullying issue at the time as well" and her counsellor found that her account was credible.

Defence solicitor Dara Robinson asked the judge not to send the case forward to a higher court saying that could lead to further delay.

Judge Ryan accepted jurisdiction to deal with the case in the juvenile court.

Another teenager, who burned the girl with the cigarette lighter, has pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to her and is due to face sentencing next month.
