Flatmate jailed for 'alarm clock' row death

A Romanian national who assaulted his flatmate in a disagreement over an alarm clock which led to the flatmate's death has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison.

Ludovic Meszaros (29), of Mountjoy Square pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to assault causing harm to Ovidiu Miut at Mountjoy Square on February 13, 2010.

Detective Chris Cahill said Meszaros was sharing the two- bedroom flat with Mr Miut and two other men. At around 11.30pm Mr Miut came home while Meszaros and another flatmate were having drinks.

Mr Muit did not want to have any drink but he sat with his flatmates. An argument broke out over an alarm clock.

Meszaros then pushed 30-year-old Mr Miut in the chest resulting in him striking his head off a wooden chair.

He died later in hospital.
