A FITNESS instructor who punched another reveller in the face, knocking him to the ground, has escaped a conviction after he paid compensation to his victim.
Neal O'Keeffe (21) left barman Ciaran Stone with facial injuries and bruises following the drunken street attack.
Swords District Court heard that O'Keeffe, a newly qualified fitness instructor, doesn't usually drink and he had far too much on the night in question.
The defendant, of Estuary Court in Swords, admitted before the court to seriously assaulting Mr Stone at Forster Way in Swords on July 22 last.
Garda Shane McGuinn said he came across a group of males shouting at each other. He said one of them said his friend had been assaulted by O'Keeffe.
The victim suffered bruising and redness to his face and missed three weeks of work.
Judge Dermot Dempsey struck out the charge after O'Keeffe paid €1,750 compensation.
