Fine of €100 for collecting drugs

A FORMER carpenter who was caught with sleeping tablets he claimed he was picking up for a friend has denied that he was operating as a "mobile chemist".

Gary Murphy (28) claimed he was drunk at the time of the incident.

He added that if he had been sober, he would never have agreed to collect the drugs.

Judge Anthony Halpin convicted and fined Murphy €100.

The defendant, of Rosemount Park in Dundrum, admitted before Tallaght District Court to possession of diazepam for sale or supply.

Garda Shane Whelan said he stopped Murphy and searched him at Nutgrove Avenue in Churchtown on July 18, 2012.

ANALYSED

During the course of the search, Gda Whelan said he found 37 blue tablets.

These were later analysed and found to be diazepam, with a street value of €37.
