Ex-boyfriend beat up love rival at work

A COURIER was repeatedly punched in the face by his new girlfriend's ex-partner who was lying in wait for him when he arrived at his workplace, a court heard.

Ladislav Marec (29) punched the victim in the face "five or six times" during the roadside assault, leaving him with a cut lip and bruising to the face. The victim also needed two stitches to a cut above his eye.

The court heard that Marec and his partner were together for 13 years, but they had been having problems and she had started seeing the victim.

COMPENSATION

Judge Patrick McMahon adjourned the matter for one week to allow Marec to bring compensation to court, and also to see if the victim wished to come to court. The judge suggested that €2,000 might be suitable compensation for the victim.

The defendant, of Seagrave Way in Finglas, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to seriously assaulting the man.

The incident took place outside the victim's place of work at Nightline, Mygan Business Park, Jamestown Road in Finglas on March 7 last. Garda Sergeant Maria Callaghan said the whole incident was captured on CCTV cameras.

reconciliation

The court heard the defendant had no previous convictions.

Defence solicitor Fiona Brennan said Marec and his partner of 13 years had separated at the time of the incident, and she had become involved with the victim. Ms Brennan said Marec was otherwise a law-abiding citizen but he foolishly decided to deal with the victim in his own way.

The court heard that Marec and his ex-partner were currently discussing a reconciliation. The pair are from Slovakia and came to Ireland together.
