A YOUNG Elvis Presley fan was left with cuts to his hand and lip after he got into a drunken fight with another man, a court heard.
Christopher Hughes (21) admitted that he had a problem with alcohol, and said he hoped to get anti-drink medication from his GP. Judge Ann Ryan ordered Hughes to complete an alcohol awareness course and adjourned the matter to June.
The defendant, of Barrett Street, York Road in Dun Laoghaire, admitted before Dun Laoghaire District Court to public drunkenness and threatening and abusive behaviour.
The incident took place at Marine Road in Dun Laoghaire on October 14 last year. Garda Ian Conroy said gardai received calls to the station about two men fighting on Marine Road shortly before 8.30pm.
Garda Conroy said Hughes was very drunk, was roaring and shouting abuse at the other male, and had cuts to the right hand and lip following the fight. The court heard the defendant was previously given the benefit of the probation act.
Defence solicitor Ronnie Lynam said Hughes, who wears his hair like Elvis and collects Elvis memorabilia, was living with his father but recently moved out and was hoping to get his own place. Mr Lynam said Hughes was attending his GP, was trying to address his alcohol issues, and would benefit from the help of the probation services.
Judge Ryan ordered the defendant to complete an alcohol awareness course and adjourned sentencing to June.
