A DRUNK woman attacked two female bartenders as she was being thrown out of a nightclub - bursting one woman's lip with a punch.

Ciara Boggins (24) - who also pulled the other bartender's hair and scratched a doorman as she was being put out - blamed her behaviour on drinking too much on an empty stomach.

Gda Kevin Carty told Dublin District Court that while being ejected Boggins punched one female staff member in the mouth, cutting her lip. The cut was bleeding when gardai arrived at the Palace Nightclub on Camden Street.

Boggins pulled the hair of a second bartender, spat in her face and scratched her chest. She also scratched a security guard's hand.

The court heard the defendant was highly intoxicated and refused to give her details. When asked what happened, she became aggressive and refused to remain seated, the garda said.

Boggins began lunging around the reception area, knocking over ornamental phone boxes. She had to be restrained by gardai before she was arrested.

Her behaviour continued in Kevin Street Garda Station, where she tried to assault several gardai while being searched.

Boggins had no prior convictions and accepted that she had behaved "disgracefully" on the night of March 21 last, her solicitor Stephen O'Mahony said. She had been out drinking with friends without eating and had a lot of mixed drinks, including spirits, on an empty stomach.

Boggins wanted to be a hairdresser and was on a waiting list for a course, Mr O'Mahony added.

Boggins, of Macuilliam Lawn, Fortunestown, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to three assaults and causing a breach of the peace.

Judge Cormac Dunne said he would strike out the charges if she paid €700 compensation to the two women she assaulted.
