Drunk man said stolen phone was his sister's

AN APPRENTICE butcher who had a stolen mobile phone initially told gardai it was his sister's phone.

Garda Sarah Smith told the court she stopped Richard O'Leary in Mulhuddart on March 18. O'Leary - of St Philomena's Court, Ballycoolin, Dublin 15 - was drunk.

She searched him and found a mobile phone that she suspected was not his.

O'Leary (18) first said it was his sister's and then said he found the phone in Dublin city centre, but did not steal it. Judge David McHugh accepted O'Leary had found the phone. He said he would strike out the case if O'Leary donated €100 to charity by July 16.
