Drugs and ammo 'found in bedroom of teen'

GARDAI recovered c5,000 worth of drugs as well as three shotgun cartridges during searches of a 16-year-old boy's bedroom, the Dublin Children's Court heard yesterday.

The boy, who is now aged 17, made no reply when he was charged with possessing cocaine and heroin for sale or supply at his north inner city Dublin home, on July 23 and October 13 last year.

He is also charged under the Firearms Act with possessing shotgun cartridges.

Garda Stephen Beatty told the court that it was alleged that a search was carried out during which "diamorphine (heroin) with an estimated value of f2,400, and cocaine worth f300 was recovered".

"During the search three shotgun cartridges were recovered in his bedroom," Garda Beatty said, adding that they were unused rounds.

Garda Susan Roche told the court that the boy's bedroom was searched again in October and this time it was alleged that heroin worth c2,500 was found, as well as cannabis valued at c60.

Judge Heather Perrin accepted jurisdiction to keep the case in the Children's Court.

The teenager was remanded on bail to appear again later this month when he is to enter a plea.
