Dad-to-be snatched handbag

A FATHER-to-be who snatched a woman's handbag at a city bar has avoided jail after a judge ordered him to carry out community service instead.

Said Essabry (25) was ordered to complete 120 hours' community service instead of a four-month prison sentence after he admitted stealing the woman's bag and contents, including her camera.

Essabry, of Church Park Drive, Harold's Cross, pleaded guilty at Dublin District Court to theft and criminal damage to the bag. Judge Denis McLoughlin said he would impose the community service order only if the accused paid €450 in compensation to the victim.

Garda Wayne Donnelly told the court the woman was in the Q bar on Burgh Quay on April 17 when Essabry stole her bag.

Essabry's partner was in hospital about to give birth to their first child, the court heard.
