Dad held drug for dealers

A Dublin father has received a five-year suspended sentence for holding over €26,900 of cannabis herb for drug dealers.

Lee Mooney (29) of Maerwood Grove, Ballymun took full responsibility for the drugs when gardai discovered the cache in a sports bag in the front garden of another home.

Detective Garda Louise McHugh said Mooney told colleagues in interview that he had "run up a bill" with certain people he feared and had to do "favours" for them to offset his €30,000 debt.

TV game dad killed baby son

A US man has been jailed for 27 years for killing his infant son because he bothered him during his video game.

Andrew Keith Johnston (19) pleaded guilty on Monday to murdering his one-month old son, William, in October 2010.

Johnston, of Tennessee, gave a written statement saying he became irritated when the infant was crying in his cot, interfering with Johnston's playing of video games.

He squeezed the boy hard and shook him.

Parent dies in school shooting

A GUNMAN opened fire near a public school in Brooklyn, New York, killing one parent and injuring an 11-year-old and another parent.

The shooting started at about 2.30pm on Friday.

Police say the 34-year-old woman who was killed was seen hovering over students to protect them as the shots were fired. A 31-year-old woman was taken to an area hospital after she was hit in the arm and chest.

Son hurls mum from wedding

A US man faces charges after he carried his mother out of a church when she arrived to stop his wedding.

Justin Lew Harris (35), of Gardnerville, Nevada, carried his 56-year-old mother out of the church as she loudly objected to the ceremony.

Church volunteer Jim Jameson said the wedding at Carson Valley United Methodist Church was called off after the disruption. He did not know what the mother's objections concerned. Harris faces misdemeanour disorderly conduct and coercion charges.
