A FATHER of one caught pushing a pedal cycle along the hard shoulder of the M50 motorway was thinking of killing himself, a court heard.
Liam Doran (27) was found with a Stanley knife after he was searched. He claimed that it was for his own protection.
Judge Bridget Reilly fined Doran €200 and sentenced him to eight months in jail.
Doran begged the judge to send him to the Midlands Prison, claiming: "I'm a dead man, I'll hang myself" if ordered to Mountjoy.
Judge Reilly said she had no power to direct that Doran should go to a particular prison.
The defendant, with an address of Whitechurch Way in Rathfarnham, admitted before Dun Laoghaire District Court to possession of a knife, providing a false name to gardai and using a motorway as a pedestrian.
