Dad found drunk on pavement hit garda

A FATHER-of-one arrested for lying drunk on a footpath after celebrating his birthday punched the investigating garda and threatened her: "I'm watching you."

Keith Byrne (26) assaulted the officer, tried to flee then made the "specific threat" toward her when he was caught on September 4 last year.

Judge Hugh O'Donnell fined him €650 at Dublin district court, convicting him of assault and public order charges.

Byrne, with an address at Macroom Road, Coolock, had admitted causing a breach of the peace but pleaded not guilty to charges of public intoxication and assaulting Garda Ciara Doyle.

Byrne was trying to do something about his alcohol problem, his solicitor Alan Doyle told the court.
