Dad fined for being abusive to gardai

A FATHER of one who hurled abuse at gardai when they stopped him on his way home from the pub has been convicted of a public order offence.

Carl Merriman (26) was fined €150 at Blanchardstown District Court over the incident near his home in west Dublin.

The accused, with an address at Palmerstown Woods, pleaded guilty to causing a breach of the peace at Station Road, Clondalkin, on January 29.

Sgt Mary Doherty said gardai saw the defendant and another man walking on the night in question and stopped them to talk to them. The accused began to argue with the gardai and became abusive and threatening when searched. He was under the influence of an intoxicant and was arrested.

Merriman had several previous convictions but it had been six years since his last one.
