Customs officer on €20k charge

A CUSTOMS officer who allegedly stole more than €20,000 from the Revenue over a two-year period has been sent for trial to Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on multiple theft charges.

John Kelly (38) is charged theft at three locations, including a Revenue office and a garda station. He was returned for trial at Dublin District Court.

Kelly, of Baron's Hall Apartments, Balbriggan, is alleged to have stolen sums ranging from €300 to several thousand euro on seven occasions.

Judge Cormac Dunne gave the accused the formal alibi warning before returning him for trial to the next sittings of the circuit court.
