Couple in court over stolen crosses

A ROMANIAN couple have been remanded in custody charged with handling statues and crosses which were stolen from graves.

Marian Lingurar (35) and his wife, Chrisa Rostas (30), of Loughgeorge, Claregalway, Co Galway, appeared in custody before Galway District Court yesterday charged with five counts of handling the graveyard statues, knowing they were stolen, on October 5.

A 17-year-old boy, who cannot be identified due to his age, was granted bail in relation to the same charges.

Gardai strenuously objected to bail applications lodged in court by the couple.

Judge Timothy Lucey refused bail and he remanded Lingurar in custody to appear before Harristown District Court today.

He remanded Rostas in custody to appear before Galway District Court next Wednesday, October 12.

The teenager was granted bail with conditions attached to appear before Galway District Court next Wednesday also.
