Child porn charge man goes for trial

A MAN accused of having images of child porn at his Dublin home more than two years ago is facing trial.

John O'Dowd (38) allegedly had pictures and movies on his computer which depicted children being sexually abused.

He is facing trial by judge and jury in the circuit court after the DPP ruled that the matter was too serious for the district court.

Judge David McHugh adjourned the matter for four weeks for the service of the book of evidence.

The accused appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged with possession of child pornography.

The alleged incident took place at his home at Beech Park in Lucan on September 4, 2010.

It is alleged that O'Dowd had computer images and movies depicting child sexual abuse, discovered after his home was searched by gardai.

A court heard the DPP has directed trial on indictment in the circuit court on the charge.
