Car prank ends in €500 fine Tiler was 'fall guy' for drugs

A PRACTICAL joke backfired on a young man after gardai caught him driving his friend's car which had been reported stolen.

Dennis Rooney (20) said he took the Mitsubishi Lancer as a joke and was going to hide it from his friend.

Judge Hugh O'Donnell described Rooney's behaviour as foolish and fined him €500, adding that he was glad he wasn't a friend of his.

Rooney, of Corduff Grove in Blanchardstown, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to using a vehicle with a fraudulent registration plate on Cappagh Road, Finglas on November 2, 2009.

The court heard Rooney took the car, and switched the number plates0 as part of the prank. The car has since been returned to his friend.
