Cannabis dealer had drug debt

A YOUNG man who was buying cannabis for himself and a small group of friends had built up a drug debt at the time, a court heard.

Karl McQuillan (23) has since paid off the drug debt with the help of his parents.

Judge Dermot Dempsey ordered McQuillan to complete 240 hours' community service in lieu of four months in prison.

McQuillan, of Boroimhe Cherry, Swords, admitted before Swords District Court to possession of cannabis for sale or supply.

Garda James Carolan said he obtained a search warrant and searched the defendant's home on May 25 last year.

During the search, Garda Carolan said McQuillan handed over a quantity of cannabis to gardai, which had a street value of €188.

Garda Carolan said McQuillan admitted the drug was for himself and for a couple of his friends.

Rory Staines, defending, said McQuillan had a drug problem and had got into debt, which he has now paid off.
