Burglar stole €30 in raid on school

A BURGLAR snatched a school secretary's handbag from her office.

James Byrne (41) admitted carrying out the theft at a national school in west Dublin.

The case against him was adjourned for sentencing when he appeared in Tallaght District Court.

Byrne, with an address at Brookview Drive, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to committing theft as a trespasser at St Mary's National School, Bancroft, Greenhills Road, Tallaght on September 29.

Gardai responded to a report that the accused had been found in the corridor outside the secretary's office.

He was escorted outside by the caretaker, who went back to the office to discover it had been disturbed and a bag containing €30 in coins stolen.

No pupils were on the premises at the time.
