Burglar at hairdresser hid in press

A BURGLAR who ransacked a city centre hairdressers was found hiding in a press when gardai arrived at the scene.

Francis Duffy (33) was found in a cupboard, with the till and a bag of stolen goods on the floor beside him when officers searched the premises.

The case against him was adjourned after Dublin District Court heard he was under a suspended sentence at the time.

Duffy, of Amiens Street, Dublin 1, admitted theft at House of Colour, Abbey Street on September 14 last.

Garda Orla Keogh told the court she was on patrol at 1.10am when she saw that a window was broken.

The owner arrived and they went inside, where they found that the till drawer had been taken.

They went downstairs to a staff area where a bag full of items was on the floor along with the till drawer and contents. The accused was hiding in a press nearby. He was cautioned and admitted a pair of gloves he had were used in the burglary.

All the stolen property was returned to the owner.

The defendant had 48 previous convictions for offences including theft and criminal damage.
