Boy who had gun locked up

ATEENAGER who was aged 16 when gardai found a sawn-off shotgun in his bedroom has been given four years' detention.

The teenager, who cannot legally be named, told gardai he was holding the gun because he had built up a drug debt from smoking cannabis.

Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard that he was waiting for others to telephone him to tell him what to do with it and that he was afraid of these people.

The youth pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm on August 6, 2011.
