Binman 'so tired his car crash is a blur'

A BINMAN who crashed into a parked vehicle was so tired when he got behind the wheel the accident is a complete blur, a court heard.

Thomas Weldon (33) said he doesn't remember the crash but recalls walking along the beach afterwards. Judge Dermot Dempsey fined Weldon €400 but did not ban him from driving.

Weldon, of Bath Road in Balbriggan, admitted before Swords District Court to careless driving and failing to remain at the scene of an accident. The incident took place at Balbriggan Road in Skerries at about 1am on February 17 last year.

Garda Robert O'Rourke said Weldon crashed into a parked car and left the scene. The garda said he made inquiries about the incident and later called to Weldon's home, where he admitted the crash.

DROVE

A defence lawyer said that Weldon drove when he was very, very tired and the whole incident was a blur.

The court heard Weldon doesn't remember anything before the crash.

He apologised and asked the judge not to ban him as he needs his licence to get to work.
