Beggar dropped his trousers at gardai after he was told to move along
A HOMELESS man dropped his trousers, exposing himself, and hurled profanities at gardai when they challenged him for begging at a Dublin city centre ATM, a court has heard.
Karl Delgarno (36) was jailed for two months over the incident.
Delgarno, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to causing a breach of the peace at Chatham Street on October 17 last year.
Dublin District Court heard gardai were on duty at 3.30pm when they saw Delgarno begging.
When they moved him on, he walked away telling them to "eff off", the court was told.
"He dropped his pants down around his knees, exposing himself," a garda said. "When told to pull up his pants, he said 'eat my s***'."
The accused had a drug problem and was ordinarily not aggressive when begging, his lawyer said.
He also admitted breach of the peace and public drunkenness in a separate incident in which he tried to throw a beer can at gardai. In that incident at Anglesea Street on October 8 last, Delgarno was drinking from a can of beer.
He refused to dispose of it when asked, telling gardai to "eff off". When the gardai went to seize it from him, he attempted to throw it at them.
Judge Michael Walsh imposed the two-month sentence.
