Banned driver jailed for refusing breath sample

A BANNED driver who refused to provide a breath sample when he was stopped on his way from a bottle bank on New Year's Eve has been jailed for five months.

Daniel Byrne (29) refused "outright" to provide a sample to gardai who arrested him on suspicion of having consumed an intoxicant.

Judge David McHugh disqualified him from driving for another four years, as well as imposing the prison sentence at Blanchardstown District Court

Byrne, of Woodford Grove, Clondalkin, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified at St John's Crescent, Clondalkin, on December 31 last year.

He also admitted refusing to provide a breath sample at Ballyfermot Garda Station.

He has previous convictions, including driving without insurance.
