Banned driver gave his wife lift to work

A BANNED driver caught behind the wheel of a car was taking his wife to work when he was stopped, a court heard.

Lithuanian Irmantas Rapalis (38) decided to drive his wife to a farm where she was working when her lift did not turn up.

Judge Dermot Dempsey, at Swords District Court, fined Rapalis €150, disqualified him from driving for four years and imposed a four-month sentence suspended for two years.

Rapalis, of Drogheda, Co Louth, admitted driving without insurance or a licence.

Gda Thomas Tighe said he was on mobile patrol at around 5.30am last January 23 when he saw a car being driven at speed at the R132 at Walshestown.

He followed the vehicle and indicated for it to stop.

The court heard Rapalis was banned for three years at the time of the incident.
