Artist loses his €38k garda claim

An artist, who alleged he was kicked and punched by gardai in Store Street Garda Station, has lost a €38,000 damages claim against the Minister for Justice and the Garda Commissioner.

Christopher Cox (56), of Richmond Cottages, Summerhill, Dublin, was shown in a video urinating on the street outside the Parnell Mooney pub on August 7, 2004 before he was arrested.

Cox told the Circuit Civil Court he had been punched in the head and kicked in his back while in a cell. He said a number of gardai also lay on him, impairing his breathing.

to illegal parade

German police say raids in two states netted evidence linking 17 neo-Nazi suspects to an illegal torchlight parade in Hamburg.

Police said the raids early yesterday targeted 14 men and three women in Hamburg and Lower Saxony who had been identified as they fled when officers broke up the parade in December.

US Dept cut from internet

A number of US Defense Department personnel in the Washington DC area and in the Midwest were cut off from the public internet for nearly three hours yesterday because of technical problems.

It was due to technical difficulties, not any malicious activity and networks are back up and operating at normal capacity.
