Addict on jail release carried out robberies

A DRUG addict who carried out a string of offences while on temporary release from prison is to be sentenced later.

Owen Comerford (27), of Sean O'Casey Avenue, Dublin 1, pleaded guilty to multiple theft and robbery offences committed between April 2, 2012 and January 9, 2013.

"He was making the most of his time out," said Judge Mary Ellen Ring, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

He said that he robbed out of desperation to feed his overwhelming drug addiction.

Comerford has 131 previous convictions including robbery, burglary, false imprisonment, possession of firearms and syr-inges, misuse of drugs and violent behaviour in a garda station.

In the last decade 17 bench warrants have been issued for his arrest. Judge Mary Ellen Ring remanded him in custody for sentencing on July 16. She ordered updated urine analysis and probation reports to be prepared.
