Addict in €900 jewel burglary sent to jail

A COCAINE and sleeping tablet addict who stole €900 worth of jewellery in a burglary has been jailed for five months.

Patrick O'Donoghue had a €4,000 drug debt when he was found with a hammer, hatchet and screwdriver he intended to use in a raid in Rathcoole.

The 23-year-old, of St Aidan's Halting Site, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to burgling the house in Celbridge, Co Kildare, on November 24, 2012.

He also admitted to possession of articles for use in a theft and driving without insurance in a separate incident.

Jennifer Jackson, defending, told Blanchardstown District Court that her client was married with two children and had not been in trouble since.

But judge David McHugh jailed O'Donoghue for five months, banned him from driving for four years and fined him €500.
