Accused in bite assault case is remanded

A MAN who is alleged to have bitten half-an-inch of flesh off another man's lip following an alleged altercation has been remanded on continuing bail for service of the book of evidence.

Rafiu Adeyemi (45), of Hampton Street, Bal- briggan, is alleged to have assaulted Kazeem Olawoyin causing him harm at Castlemills, Balbriggan, last Septem- ber 22.

Sgt Tony Tighe told Balbriggan District Court the DPP has directed summary disposal of the case.

Judge Dermot Demp- sey asked to hear an out-line of the prosecution evidence to determine if the case should re- main in the district court or be dealt with higher up.

Sgt Tighe told the court that both men had been allegedly drinking in an apartment when an altercation broke out.

He said it has been alleged that Mr Adeyemi bit Mr Olawoyin on the bottom lip and re- moved half-an-inch of flesh .

After hearing the alleged facts, Judge Dermot Dempsey refused jurisdiction to have the case heard at district court level due to the seriousness of the alleged incident.

He remanded Mr Adeyemi on contin- uing bail to reappear before the court on Sep- tember 3 for service of the book of evidence.
