78-year-old says ring wrenched off finger

A 15-year-old boy has been sent forward for trial over a burglary in Dublin where an elderly woman was traumatised and had her finger broken when an engagement ring was forcibly taken from her.

The boy, who is from Tallaght, had been charged at the Dublin Children's Court burglary at Gledswood Park, in Clonskeagh, on the evening of September 13 last year.

Earlier it had been held that the case of the teen and another boy, also aged 15, should be transferred to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court which has wider sentencing powers. A bench warrant was issued for the arrest of the boy's co-defendant, who did not turn up.

In an outline of the evidence, the court heard burglars entered the 78-year-old woman's home by forcing the front door with a screwdriver.
