€140k coke accused keen for trial start

A SPANISH woman facing trial in connection with the seizure of €140,000 worth of cocaine is anxious for the matter to be progressed, a court has heard.

Raquel Aparicio Ruiz (32) is alleged to have had the drugs at a Dublin hotel after her arrival at Dublin Airport from Brazil via Frankfurt.

The accused, with an address at Molino De Cristo, Calle Velez in Malaga on Spain's Costa Del Sol, appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged with possession of cocaine as well as having the drug for sell or supply.

She is also charged under Section 15A of the Misuse of Drugs Act, where the alleged value of the drug is more than €13,000.

A State solicitor said the book of evidence was not yet ready and asked for a four week adjournment.

Defence solicitor John O'Doherty said Ruiz was anxious for the book of evidence to be prepared as soon as possible.

Mr O'Doherty said Ruiz has not made an application for bail as she has no ties to the jurisdiction.

Judge David McHugh remanded Ruiz in custody to January 31, saying he will be looking for progress to be made on the next day.
