A YOUNG garda who prided herself on her manner with people got a crunching kick in the chest when she tried to help a prisoner, a judge has heard.
Garda Danielle Collins told Ms Justice Mary Irvine that as she tried to help a drunk prisoner remove her earrings she was kicked.
"As I fell on my left shoulder the woman kicked me in the chest," Gda Collins told the Garda Compensation section of the High Court.
Garda Collins (28) said that in August 2008 she had been called to Killarney to deal with a drunk woman.
The woman was taken to Kilkenny garda station, and when Gda Collins politely asked her to remove her earrings, she attacked her.
Judge Irvine awarded Garda Collins just under €13,000.
