A man is expected to appear in court in Mayo today in connection with the shooting of a supermarket worker.
Dympna Walsh (50), a mother of three grown-up sons, was in a stable condition at Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar after being blasted in both legs with a double-barrelled shotgun.
Gardai were hoping to receive directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions today to formally charge the main suspect in the case -- a 50-year-old Mayo man who knew Ms Walsh.
An ambulance was on the scene within minutes of the shocking incident, and rushed Ms Walsh to hospital in Castlebar. She received emergency medical treatment and was out of danger yesterday.
A man aged about 50 was arrested later on Tuesday evening at a pub in nearby Mayoabbey.
He was detained overnight at Castlebar garda station and was being medically assessed yesterday. A businessman from Co Mayo, he is understood to know Ms Walsh.
Gardai were yesterday attempting to find a motive for the shooting, and have again asked for witnesses to come forward. Information should be given to officers at Castlebar station 094-9038200 or to the garda confidential line 1800 666 111.
