Councillor Catherine gets Cosmo shoot... all thanks to the Clintons

It ISN'T every day that a Dublin councillor is picked for a photo-shoot for the glossy US edition of Cosmopolitan magazine.

Catherine Ardagh (32) appears in the latest edition of the magazine after being selected for a feature on "eight incredible women who don't take no for an answer".

Catherine's involvement with the feature came about after she attended an event earlier this year in UCD. Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, was hosting a 'Girls: A No Ceilings Conversation'.

The Irish Women For Election group had invited Catherine and a number of other women in politics to UCD for the event.

"There was probably about 50 of us in the room," Catherine told the Herald.

"I asked a question about whether she thought gender quotas should come into play in America, and Chelsea said no, she thought there were bigger issues to concentrate on."

A few months later, she got an email asking her to participate in the Cosmo article, and she was interviewed and her photo taken.

Meanwhile, Chelsea said in the Cosmo article that "the Clinton Foundation launched No Ceilings: The Full Participation Project to study the progress women and girls have made over the last 20 years."

Catherine is photographed in the State room in Dublin Castle and the article notes that: "Ireland ranks 24th out of 28 European Union countries for female political representation. Dublin City Council member Ardagh wants to change that."
