Council may run trust

DUBLIN'S Temple Bar Cultural Trust may be subsumed into the City Council by early next year in a bid to save funds.

The agency had been behind promoting events in the cultural area of Dublin's city centre. But reports have suggested that a 90-day consultation period regarding the future of the trust began last week.

It is still unclear as to what will happen to the entity after the investigation. It may be the case that it will remain independent, but there are suggestions that it may be taken over by Dublin City Council before the end of the first quarter of 2013.

The trust employs just under 20 people, but it is understood that its annual rent take from the 50 or so arts and cultural buildings under its control tops €2m.
