Concert venue for Cork

A €50M CONCERT venue aimed at giving Cork a rival to Dublin's 3Arena and Belfast's Odyssey Centre will be built in the city's medieval quarter.

Heineken/BAM won a hard-fought tender process to provide a 6,000-seat concert/conference centre at the old Beamish & Crawford brewery site over a rival bid tabled by developer Owen O'Callaghan for Cork's docklands.

Cork City Council now hopes that construction work on the long-delayed venue can begin in early 2015. Officials insisted the project is critical to Cork's future economic development.
