Concern at the secret filming of children

RTE's Prime Time could find itself in hot water yet again after filming children without the knowledge of their parents.

Footage of children was captured with covert equipment at up to three Dublin creches.

A number of parents have expressed concern to the Herald that the recordings were done without advance notice to them.

The footage is now being used as part of a HSE and Garda probe into allegations of poor treatment at the creches.

In a statement, RTE said that it does intend to broadcast an investigative report relating to standards in childcare.

"The programme investigates the standard of care in a number of Irish creches and the report will feature in an upcoming Prime Time," the station said.

"Specifics as to programme content cannot be confirmed prior to transmission until all editorial and legal processes have been concluded."

The spokesperson noted that RTE continues to liaise with the parents of the children involved, the creches featured, the HSE and gardai.

Several parents have been contacted in recent days and shown the footage.
