Climber suffers head injury after fall

a man in his mid-30s has been taken to Beaumont Hospital with serious head injuries after falling more than 50 foot off a cliff in Dalkey.

The man had been climbing with another person, around Dalkey Quarry, when he got into difficulty and fell halfway down the cliff.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 3.40pm yesterday afternoon, with both climbers in difficulty.

The man was rescued after he landed onto rocks halfway down the cliff, and was immediately taken to hospital.

Crews from the Dublin Fire Brigade, the National Ambulance Service, the Dublin Coastguard, and the Dublin-Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team attended the scene near Kiliney Hill.

A spokesman for the Dublin Fire Brigade said the rescue operation lasted more than two hours.
