A report in the early edition of the Herald on May 10, 2011 on the shooting dead of Paul McCarthy contained a number of factual inaccuracies.
Contrary to our report, Mr McCarthy had not been of concern to gardai from the age of 14, nor had he served a prison sentence or been convicted of a number of offences including aggravated burglary or armed robbery.
The report also inaccurately associated Mr McCarthy with the sister of a well known Dublin criminal.
Paul (19) had not been in trouble with the gardai until shortly before his death which remains under garda investigation.
We are happy to clarify this matter and apologise to the family of the late Paul McCarthy for any distress caused by the errors contained in the report.
