City gears up for a Bastille Day feast of French food and wine

Forget bacon and cabbage, Dublin's culinary scene will have some French flair this week as the capital celebrates Bastille Day.
Restaurants and bars around the city look set to mark France's national holiday this week with a gourmet extravaganza.
Former Masterchef star Nick Munier will head up the celebrations as he opens his new Temple Bar eatery Avenue for 'Vive La Gastronomie Francaise' on Thursday.
The celebrity restaurateur has teamed up with the France Ireland Chamber of Commerce to put on the event, which includes pre-dinner cocktails and a masterclass followed by a five-course meal served with a selection of French wines.

Iconic bar The Church will also play host to Bastille Day celebrations and will be treating punters to live entertainment, including French dancing and music along with a French-themed menu.
Munier opened Avenue back in March and the former Hell's Kitchen star admitted his new restaurant won't be ideal for those hoping to cut back on calories.
"A restaurant is where people come for a treat, a little bit of escapism, so why should we dictate what they eat? People are intelligent enough to know what they want," Nick said.
The former TV personality, who previously ran popular dining spot Pichet, believes his latest venture will be nothing short of a success.
"You need to offer something that you know people will want, but we will have to tweak it as we go along," he said.
