City engulfed in smoke as quayside building burns

A fire in the city centre engulfed the river Liffey quayside in smoke today.

Six fire tenders and an ambulance were rushed to City Quay on the south side of the river near the port entrance amid fears that someone may have been trapped in an unused building close to the Project Arts Centre and the headquarters of Ulster Bank. The alarm was raised shortly after 8.30am when passers-by spotted the flames. A pall of smoke from the fire quickly spread up the quays towards O'Connell Street.
